Toyota Camry year 2000 doing over 700 000 miles

Check this video, the car has ran over 700 000 miles, wich equal 700k*1,6km=1 120 000 km

The timing belt for the camshaft has been replaced 7 times. About 230 oilchanges :-), thats a lot.

Toyota Yaris 2007 S doing lots of miles in a couple of years

I think this car is sold in USA, its been manufactured 2006. Here in Sweden we don´t have sedans of the Yaris version. The car has done an impressive 400,000 Miles in 3 years and 6 months.

Most miles in a car? Volvo P1800

I have always been interested in founding reliable cars. This old Volvo has run about 2.7 million miles and probably a bit more when this is written. 2 700 000 * 1,6 = 4 320 000 km.

Extrem reliability! We know that old Volvo were good and reliable, but not this good.

Irv Gordon has owned the cars since 1966 and is about 71 years old by now. He plans to make 3 million miles by his 73 birthday.

The engine has been rebuilt once at 680,000 miles..completely. The head has not been off since and that was in 1978. I had the work done by the same dealer that sold me the car in 1966 and they still service it today. I had it done as preventive maintenance as I never heard of an engine that could last that long.
Transmission has had the 3rd gear syncro replaced as well as the front and rear oil seals.
 Brake rotors have been replaced once and the rear drums are still original.
Clutch and throw out bearing gets replaced approx. every 450,000 miles as needed.
Carburetors get rebuilt and throttle shafts get rebushed every 900,000 miles
One new starter motor
Two fuel pumps (first pump was changed at 1, 251,000 miles)
Three water pumps
Shocks, bushings, tie rods, etc. are replaced as needed…also at very high mileage…usually over 400,000 miles
Front seats have been recovered twice ( I have no garage and the sun has a tendency to dry out the leather after a while). The rest of the interior is all original
Speedometer gets serviced by Smiths Instruments ( Nisonger Corp.) approximately every 100,000 miles…cleaned, lubricated and calibrated)
All gauges are original including the AM-FM radio
Sheet metal is original except for the rocker panels(rust), jacking struts (rust) and the rear panel due to an accident. The chrome has been redone about 20 years ago and the nose grille surround was replaced due to an accident in 1987.
Original radiator was damaged in the same accident in 1987…and I am on my second radiator.
Heater core and control switch have been replaced once.
Tires are replaced about every 100,000 miles and usually I need brake pads at about the same mileage. ( I use Bridgestone Tires)
Oil gets changed every 3500 miles and the rest of the service is done according to the owners manual.
Brake Master Cylinder and Clutch Master and Slave units have been replace twice each.
Brake vacuum Booster has been replaced once.

International Engine of the year - Fiat 875 cc TwinAir

Fiat's turbocharged 875-cc TwinAir two-cylinder engine got the most votes in three or four engine categories.

1. Best new Engine of 2011
2. Best Green Engine of the Year
3. Best engine of the year in the Sub 1.0-liter (which Toyota / Daihatsu design 1.0 VVT-i engine previously has won a couple of years in a row).
4. International Engine of the Year (first time for Fiat, congratulation!)

The engine is available in three different versions: 50kW, 60kW and 78kW. It lowest average fuel consumption rating is said to be 4.1L/100km.

Matt Davis, one of the panelists, commented about the engine:

“I was as skeptical as anyone before I tried this engine, but it’s an entirely ‘new-old’ experience that is the ultimate minimalist IC engine expression. I dig the simplicity here and the sound inside the car. Fuel is literally sipped.”

Fiats program manager, Gianni Mastrangelo said:

"We wanted an engine to fully demonstrate our downsizing capabilities and we needed a displacement that could fully exploit our MultiAir system. We concluded that a two-cylinder, 875-cc setup with a turbo was capable of realizing all our development targets. There were lots of problems to be solved during this project, keeping in mind that this architecture was new. The most important challenge to overcome was integrating the MultiAir system within the two-cylinder activation unit. Plus, we wanted the NVH of the TwinAir to be at least as good as that of a four-cylinder engine."

The TwinAir did won over the competition (372 points), beating the popular Volkswagen 1.4-liter TSI Twincharger (346 points). I would like to try the Fiat engine!

Engine alternatives in ”The Triplets” (Toyota Aygo, Citroen C1 and Peugeot 107)

Two engines has been available to choose between, however I not sure the Toyota is available in diesel anymore..? Inputs is appreciated.

1. 4 cylinder 1.4 liter diesel engine: 2WZTV engine, (PSA developed)
2. 1 liter (996 cc), 3 cylinder petrol engine: 1KR-FE engine

My own interest is in the petrol version, so here goes:

The engine is assembled in Poland or Japan (according to wiki)

The engine comes from Toyota, but is designed by Daihatsu. The engine has been chosen “International Engine of the Year” 2007-2010 in the sub category below 1 liter engines.

The engine uses a Timing chain, so you won’t have to replace a belt. The chain will probably last many years before starting to get noise and will need to be replaced. The engine block is made of aluminum and uses Double Overhead Cam (DOHC). The fuel injection system is “multi-point”.

It has VVT-i technology and has 4 valves per cylinder (twelve in total). It produces 50 kW, which equals 50*1,36=68 Swedish Horse powers (hkr). It doesn’t produce mush carbon dioxide footprint either. Here in Sweden it is a “environment friendly car” and the road tax is therefore low on this type of car.

The engine is really small and weights only about 69 kg. Some Internet pages say 67 kg. Perhaps this number is without accessories.

Adac statistic for the Triplets: Aygo, 107, C1

The Triplets: Toyota Aygo, Citroen C1, Peugeot 107 statistic Adac 2010 (kleinwagen), minicars

It is always interresting to follow statistics from the german car club ADAC with 17 millions members (june 2010) has to say (Allgemeiner Deutscher Automobil-Club e.V.)

The Toyota Aygo got first place, probably because of better support by the Toyota sellers.

Startup - new blog about cars - Cars 2 Run

This site is intended to gather information about cars that I found interesting to take a look at. English is not my mother tongue so bear with me in my sentences and bad spelling.

Instead of just having this blog in Swedish I thought other people might be interested to. I will give English a try, but some messages might be in just Swedish.
